Another Salsa Moment (Internet ad sales eclipse magazine ad sales)

[tweetmeme source=”helpmerhonda11″ only_single=false]

Many years ago, when I was a marketing manager for a national brand of condiments, there was a moment that was dramatic and eye-opening:  sales of salsa had eclipsed sales of ketchup, as the best selling condiment in the U.S.  Demographics and consumption trends had changed, the proof was irrefutable!

Yesterday, the New York Times reported that internet spending had passed magazine ad spending. Deja Vu! You’d  have to be living under a rock not to realize this trend was taking place, but seeing it in print (no pun intended) was another salsa moment!

Some trends are inexorable, and we have seen this one coming for a long time.  Still, when it happens, it makes you realize how dramatically the digital world has changed things.
