[tweetmeme source=”helpmerhonda11″ only_single=false]How do you make a great blog post even better?
Add a little SEO to the mix, that’s how.
Here’s an example: I recently read a brilliant blog post on marketing plans, by talented marketing strategist Mimi Griffith. I only wish she had remembered the first commandment of search engine marketing: “Thou Shalt Use Keywords!” This is as important for blogging as it is for websites.
What could Mimi have done differently? Instead of a title like “Happy New Year”…which, if you read the blog post, relates to getting ready for the New Year with a well thought out Marketing Plan….how much better for search engines and readership if the title included the keyword phrase “Marketing Plan”. Something like: ” Marketing Plan: Do it Now, for Success in the New Year! “.
Not to split hairs, Mimi, but the keyword phrase wasn’t in the first line of text, either:(
So, my digital friends, here’s what you need to know about Keywords, for blogs and web pages:
- Put keyword in the heading,
- in the first line of text,
- in the last line of text,
- in body copy,
- in image tags.
If you sprinkle keywords in your body copy, so much the better…just don’t be obnoxious about it, write for your reader. If you have an image, put keywords in the alt image tag, also. This will keep your readers happy, and Googlebot happy.
There are many strategies for growing readership of a blog. On Social Media Examiner, there’s a great article called “6 Ways to Optimize your Blog for Search Engines Here, which deals with the more technical side of things but is worth reading. I’d love to hear what you do: please add your ideas about SEO (and other tips) for bloggers!
